Rev. Dudley Levistone Cooney President of the Society
The Society was founded in 1934 to promote the study of the history of Dublin and of Dubliners. The Society's main activities are:
1. Meetings on Wednesday evenings during the autumn in October / November and during spring in February / March / April at which Papers are read by members or invited guest speakers. The venue is the Conference Room, Dublin City Library and Archive, 138-144 Pearse Street, Dublin 2, at 7.30pm
A silver Medal is awarded to the member reading the Paper which is adjudged the best paper read during the season.
2. Visits to places of historic interest during the months June to August - usually on Saturdays.
3. Co-operating with other societies interested in the conservation of important buildings and opposing undesirable "developments".
The Society publishes Dublin Historical Record twice yearly.
Membership of the Society is open to everyone interested in Dublin history. Persons who wish to join the Society must be proposed by a Member and are elected by the Council. To join the Society complete the application form and send it, with the appropriate remittance to the Hon. Treasurer. Full details can be found on page three of this website.
